India's second oldest museum, Dr. Bhau Daji Lad (Mumbai City) Museum, lay in a grossly derelict state. A public private partnership between Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation and INTACH and five years of restoration effort saw it transform into one of the finest museums in Mumbai. In fact, it received the UNESCO's highest award of Excellence for Cultural Conservation.
The Museum, dedicated to the dynamic spirit of Mumbai and its people, holds exhibitions, releases publications, undertakes projects and workshops with school groups, organises expert seminars and group visits of national and international organisations. The museum has established a formal partnership with the Victoria & Albert Museum, London to enable an exchange of expertise.
