Jamnalal Bajaj Balmandir

Balmandir was started in the Mahila Ashram in Wardha. Smt. Mira Mundhada after getting trained in basic education in 1938 (who was inspired by Smt. Ashadevi Aryanayakam - an Indian freedom fighter, educationist and a Gandhian) took charge of Balmandir in 1948. The Balmandir was registered after the name of Shri Jamnalal Bajaj. In 1955, when the Balmandir constructed its own building, on the land donated by Akhil Bhartiya Sarva Seva Sangh, Dr. Rajendra Prasad-the then President of India was invited to inaugurate the Balmandir. It follows Mahatma Gandhi and Acharya Vinobha Bhave's ideologies. It seeks to instill deep cultural, moral and social values in boys and girls in the age group of 2.5 to 6 years, to make them responsible future citizens.

This organisation since then has been successfully fulfilling its objective of taking care of the holistic development of the children. The medium of instruction is in the children's mother tongue i.e. Marathi and Hindi. Songs and poetries in different languages are also recited. Based on the principles of Montessori education, subjects like language, mathematics, science, arts are taught with the application of creative and innovative methods. Activities like games, exercises, yoga, music, gardening, dance, drawing and handicraft skills are incorporated in the daily teaching modules; and ways to protect the environment is also included. Children across all caste and creed come to the Balmandir. They have to wear uniform made of khadi fabric.
